Temples of Una
1.Baba Dera Mandir
- Situated:- village Nari about 10 kms. from Una
- Dhuna has been burning here since 1850
- Panch Bhisham fair is held.
- The festival of Holi was traditionally celebrated at Dera Baba Rudranand temple.
- There are five peepal trees in this temple.

2. Shiv Bari Mandir
- A Shiv temple, located at Gagret tehsile of Una.
- Shiv Bari sits on the bank of the river Swan and this place is considered as a practicing area for archery pupils of Guru Dronacharya.
- the lord Shiva temple in the Shiv Bari was built by Guru Dronacharya for his daughter Jayati to worship the Hindu Lord Shiva.
- Here, Guru Dronacharya imparted education to the five Pandavas.

3. Banode Mahadev
- Situated in- Village Chattara(चताडा), Una
- The Banode Mahadev Temple is located in the Shivalik hills, 14 kilometers from Una district headquarters.
- Here Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati are enshrined in the form of a damaged Shivling. (खंडित शिवलिंग)

4. Baba vadbhag Singh
- Baba Vadbhag Singh is a revered spiritual figure and saint in Sikh tradition, particularly known in the region of Himachal Pradesh and Punjab.
- Baba Vadbhag Singh, who is said to have come to Una from Kartarpur about 300 years ago.
- The famous Baba Vadbhag Singh’s place of meditation is in Maidi, located 42 kilometers far from Una.
- The Holi festival (Hola Mohalla) is celebrated here with great enthusiasm.

5. Sada Shiv Mandir
- Situated on Dhyunsar range, at VIllage Talmera, Una.
- This temple is 5600 years old.
- This temple is dedicated to lord Shiva.

6. Garib Das Mandir
- The Baba Garib Nath Temple is located near the village of Raipur in the Una district of Himachal Pradesh.
- This temple is located in the Gobind Sagar Lake and is surrounded by hills on all sides.
- Water-related activities will take place around the temple, for which the Asian Development Bank will provide assistance.

7. Mahadev Mandir
- Located in Upper Kotla kala.
- An 82-feet statue of Lord Shiva has been installed in this ancient Mahadev Temple.

8. Chintapurni Mata Temple
- Mata Chintpurni Devi is one of the many forms of the supreme Goddess Durga. In this form, she is also known as Maa Chhinnamasta or Maa Chhinnamastika.
- A fair is held three times a year at the temple of the goddess – once during Kartik Navratri (Oct-Nov.), second in the month of Chait, and the last during the Shravan Ashtami (June-July).

9. Bharmoti Temple
- This temple is devoted to Lord Brahma.
- This famous temple is near Una Himachal on the banks of satluj river in nangal Dam.
- It is believed that in Brahmoti, there are two and a half steps of heaven built by the Pandavas.

Baba Sahib Singh Bedi
- Sahib Singh Bedi was born to parents Ajit Singh Bedi (died 1773) and Sarupan Devi on 7 April 1756 at Dera Baba Nanak (in present-day Gurdaspur district) in the traditional Punjabi month of Chet sudi.
- Baba Kala Dhari (Guru Nanak ji’s descendent) —- Started from Gurdaspur, then reached Una via the jungles of Jalandhar.
- Baba Kala Dhari is the founder of Una City.
- Baba Kala Dhari ji used to recite the Guru Granth Sahib on the mountain called Unaa.
- After Baba Kala Dhari Ji, Baba Sahib Singh Ji Bedi sat on the throne.
- King Umeg Singh of Jaswan state gifted 177 villages to Baba ji.
- In the month of March, a fair is held in memory of Baba Kala Dhari ji.

- On the day of Nirjala Ekadashi in the month of June, a fair is organized for three days in the piplu village’s Thakur Dwara Mandir.

1. Jaswa Dhar
- Sola singhi dhar is known as Jaswa dhar in Una and Chintapurni Dhar in Chintapurni.
- Una falls under the Shivalik range.
- The Shivalik Range is a low-lying Himalayan mountain range

2. Dhyunsar Dhar
- Situated in Bahi village near Talmehra in Bangana Tehsil of Una district.
- Dhyunsar Mahadev Temple is a popular Hindu Temple which is commonly known as Sada Shiv Mandir.

- Rise from Daulatpur Chowk, divided Una into 2 parts and reach Anandpur Sahib (pb) and meet Satluj.
- The river is known as the “Sorrow of Una” because of the devastating floods it causes during the monsoon season.

Economy and facts about Una district
- Una is the 2nd producer of Mango after Kangra.
- For the first time in Himachal Pradesh, the organized production of Sereman(दालचीनी) has been started in Barnoh, Una.
- Dragon fruit cultivation has started in Una.
- The first rainwater harvesting dam opened in Samoor, Una.
- Lata Mangeshkar Kala Kendra opened in Samoor.
- Himachal Pradesh’s largest bridge is the Rampur-Haroli bridge in Una, spanning 773 meters.
- Under the Jal Jeevan Mission, Una, Kinnaur, Chamba, and Lahaul-Spiti have achieved 100% tap water connections.
- Himachal Pradesh’s only broad gauge railway line is in Una. Opened in 1991, the Una-Nangal rail line spans 33 km.
- Nishad Kumar from Amb district of Una jumped 2.06 meters in the high jump competition at the Tokyo Paralympics 2020 and won a silver medal.
- Padma Shri Award was given to Pandit Charanjeet Singh (Una) for his contribution to the game of hockey. Under his captaincy, India won the gold medal in 1964.
- Himachal Pradesh’s first Emu breeding farm is located at Ganguwal (Una). This farm has been established with the help of America. (The Emu is the second-largest bird after the Ostrich.)
- Paragliding testing has started in Gharwasda, Una, for tourism purposes.
- Himachal Pradesh’s second flower market will soon open in Una, after Parwanoo.
History of Una
Under Una district, there were two princely states: one was Jaswa and the second was Kuthleher.
1. Jaswa Riyasat– This region was separated from the Kangra Kingdom and formed its own independent state.
- Kangra’s King Padam Chand’s younger brother, Raja Purab Chand, founded the Jaswan Kingdom in 1170 AD.

Muslim Invasion
- After the invasions of Mahmud of Ghazni, this region came under Muslim rule.
Govind Chand
- After Govind Chand’s rule, the Jaswan region fell under the Mughals.
Umed Chand:
- During Umed Chand’s reign, the Jaswan region came under the control of Ranjit Singh (Sikhs) in 1815.
- Ranjit Singh gave Umed Singh and his family authority under his rule, but they were asked to participate in the Siege of Kangra (1815).
- Due to the Sikh rule, heavy taxes were imposed on the people of the region.
- 1848- 2nd Anglo-Sikh War (Umed Singh helped the Sikhs).

- For supporting the Sikhs, Umed Singh and his son were heavily penalized by the British.
- Umed Singh was imprisoned in Almoda Jail, and this marked the end of his reign. His deity (Deota) was also taken away.
- 1879- Umed Singh’s grandson, Ram Singh, was made the ruler of Jaswan by the British.
2. Kutlehar Dynasty-
- After looting Kangra, this dynasty came into existence.
- Kutlehar was known for being a prominent kingdom in the hilly region. In ancient times, it was called “Chaki Kutlehar.”
- This dynasty had 40 kings in total.
- The dynasty was founded by Jaspal (a Brahmin). After becoming a king, he declared himself as a Rajput.
- The capital of this dynasty was Kot Kahlur.
- 1378: Ghamand Chand attacked this dynasty.
- 1786: Sansar Chand attacked Kutlehar.
- 1809: Kutlehar came under Sikh rule.
- 1825: King Narayan Pal was involved in a war over Kot Wallabgarh with Ranjit Singh.
- He had to pay a fine of ₹10,000 to Ranjit Singh.
